PHILANTHROPY
American Red Cross (2023 - Present)
Lambda Chi Alpha is proud to partner with the American Red Cross. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs lifesaving blood. Through this partnership, our chapters have the opportunity to host Red Cross blood drives on their campuses. Alumni can support this partnership by accessing the Lambda Chi Alpha National Blood Link website to find available Red Cross blood drives in their area where they can donate and support our partnership. In addition to hosting blood drives, Lambda Chi Alpha Chapters and Members may also coordinate with their local Red Cross chapter for volunteer opportunities, including Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response, Internships & Academic Service Learning, and CPR & Water Safety Training.
Feeding America (2013 - Present)
Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity created a formal partnership with Feeding America in the summer of 2013. The mission of Feeding America is to fight to end hunger and our mission is to instill values in young men. This mission alignment has allowed us to implement this partnership successfully. Our members are encouraged to host philanthropy events, volunteer at their local food bank and advocate for this cause. Since our partnership has begun we have provided over 15 million meals hungry families through Feeding America. This has become a wonderful opportunity for our men to live our values and make a lasting impact within their community.
North American Food Drive (1993-2013)
Every year the entire Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity participates in the North American Food Drive. Each chapter works to raise founds of food to donate to their local food banks. Gamma-Iota Zeta collects donations and raises money to help the Licking Country Food Bank. A philanthropy this large is impossible with out the help of the entire Denison and Granville communities. Every fall Gamma-Iota has "Sign-Away Your Meal" tables setup in the dining halls before Thanksgiving Break. By signing away your meal, the Denison community was able to help Gamma-Iota donate those funds to the Licking County Food Bank.
Sorority Shanghai
Gamma-Iota host a competition amongst all of the Sororities where they compete to raise money and canned food for the North American Food Drive. At the end of the week there is a formal dinner with all of the participating Sororities.
Water Mellon Bash
One of Gamma-Iota's largest events is Watermelawn, an event previously held on North Quad but moved to the larger East Quad in order to hold the growing capacity of students on campus who joined in on the fun games and activities provided at the event.
In recent years, Watermelawn has included a car bash, dunk tank, fraternity and sorority presidents pie bash, and spaghetti wrestling all along side a huge barbecue and music. At the end of the day there will be a party to celebrate the event in the basement of Morrow House. There will be a bar tender and live music. Proceeds from the event go towards supporting the North American Food Drive
White Rose Formal
Every Spring Gamma-Iota holds our annual White Rose Formal. Every year we have a formal dinner and dancing. The Brothers and their dates enjoy fine dining and music in an elegant atmosphere. The formal is one of the highlights of the spring for the brothers.
